Climate 03. Andreco, Bitonto, 2016. Questo murale è un dono al paesaggio locale e al duro lavoro che contadini e operai hanno svolto in una lunga storia di lotta con i proprietari terrieri.
Andreco came to Apulia to take part in “La gioia del creato” (The Joy of Creation), a performance dedicated to the former mayor, architect, and painter of Bitonto, Umberto “Joditz” Kuhtz. He was invited to bring art to “Area 167”, a market square surrounded by public housing, overlooking the dry riverbed of the ancient Tiflis River. Human actions led to its demise, causing desertification in one of Europe’s most prolific olive-growing regions. This mural is a tribute to the local landscape and to the hard work of farmers and laborers in their long history of struggle against landowners.
“Desert” was also the central theme of TEDxBari, where Pigment Workroom participated as a partner, bringing Andreco to the prestigious stage of Teatro Petruzzelli to share his perspective as both an artist and an environmental engineer.
The following day provided an opportunity to present our self-produced Risograph fanzine, printed in four colors, thanks to Spine Bookstore.
The mural was produced by Poesia in Azione with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Bitonto. The artist: Andreco (link to the artist’s page)
